About Jim Corbett National Park
Jim Corbett National Park stands as one of India’s most popular wildlife destinations, renowned for its rich biodiversity and scenic beauty. It is the second-largest tiger reserve in the country after the Sunderbans and attracts nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers from all over. Established in 1936 as Hailey National Park, it holds the distinction of being India’s first national park.
Spanning over 500 square kilometers, the park is a stunning blend of river belts, hills, marshy depressions, vast grasslands, and a large lake. It is one of the few tiger reserves in India that allows overnight stays within the forest, offering a truly immersive jungle experience. Visitors can explore the park on an elephant safari or in an open gypsy, providing a chance to encounter wildlife in its natural habitat.
In addition to the iconic Royal Bengal Tiger, the park is home to leopards, wild elephants, crocodiles, and over 600 species of birds. Its dramatic landscapes and dense forests have also made it a favorite location for film shoots.
Jim Corbett National Park is located in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand, with the nearest cities being Ramnagar and Kotdwar. The climate remains moderate throughout the year, with winter temperatures dipping to around 4–5°C and summer temperatures rarely exceeding 27°C.
